News 20th May 2025 Retail & Leisure

Touchwood Shopping Centre recently welcomed over 60 professionals from Workman-managed retail and leisure destinations across the UK for Workman’s annual Retail & Leisure Conference.

Hosted by Tony Elvin, Centre Manager at Touchwood, the event offered an opportunity for learning, collaboration, and exploring innovative approaches to retail and leisure management. Tony opened the conference with a welcome and agenda overview, setting the tone for a day of thought leadership and practical insights.

Gareth Soar, Partner and Head of Retail & Leisure at Workman, provided an update on the company’s strategic direction and shared valuable best practices for operational excellence across retail portfolios. His session was part of a broader programme that reflected the evolving landscape of the industry.

Among the many insightful sessions was a panel discussion led by marketing agency experts and centre managers, which explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can support the delivery of marketing and events within limited budgets. Delegates appreciated the practical advice and creative ideas for maximising impact through innovative, cost-effective solutions.

A key discussion also focused on Martyn’s Law, continuing the conversation from last year’s conference, where experts outlined how retail and leisure destinations can enhance security measures to protect against terror attacks and ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by Michelle Moreno of QAB Leadership. In her dynamic session on Leadership and Influence, Michelle explored the importance of finding common ground, maintaining motivation, and understanding the difference between what can be controlled and what can be influenced.

The event concluded with an evening of networking, entertainment, and dinner. The following morning, delegates took part in an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Touchwood, offering a closer look at the operations driving the centre’s continued success.

Special thanks to the team at Touchwood and our conference sponsors for making this event possible.
