News 19th February 2024 Building Consultancy

Richard Taylor, Partner and Head of Building Consultancy, is speaking at the 21st March Bisnow event: UK Office Series: The Renaissance, where he’ll be joining a panel of experts sharing best practice on how to revitalise office spaces through upgrades.

Richard’s panel, “Outlook on Upgrades: Making the Future Retro(Fitted)” will also feature insight from Fons Van Dorst, Executive Managing Director, Edge; Isabel Thomas, Head of Offices, Shaftesbury; Fergus Evans, Office Portfolio Direct, Grosvenor; Robin Pritchett, Head of Building Performance UK Cundall Johnston & Partners; Ben Gillam, CEO and Founder, Thirdway.

The event is based on the premise that a new dawn for the office market has now truly set in: “those active in the London office sector say that things are never going back to the way they were, and that the real estate world needs to learn how to function in a different reality,” say Bisnow organisers.

A report from BNP Paribas stated that offices in the UK which demonstrate the “best ESG credentials” have continued to attract occupiers, including law firms (over 500,000 sq. ft). They made up 11.5% of central London’s H1 2023 take-up.

How to revitalise offices

This event will focus on how to best understand occupier needs, and how to upgrade buildings and revitalise offices to the most advantageous market position accordingly.

What you’ll learn:

  1. Explore prevailing investment trends in the UK office market, including how evolving market dynamics impact the underwriting and financing of office space.
  2. Understand if demand is still centred around ‘prime’ office assets, and if there is demand outside of that category.
  3. Learn where price will go for offices based on available data.
  4. Gain insights into upgrading office spaces with sustainability, longevity and quality in mind to attract tenants and investors.
  5. Learn more about leasing trends within the office sector and what amenities tenants want.
