ESG – environmental, social and governance – describes a responsible, sustainable and ethical approach to investing in and managing real estate.

We believe it is possible to do what’s right and achieve returns. Our approach to implementing ESG best practice is based on this principle.

As commercial property management and building consultancy specialists, we understand that our responsibility is wider than just managing, maintaining and re-modelling buildings.

We believe the assets we manage should operate in an environmentally and socially responsible way, creating a sense of place and community for occupiers and the local community. We proactively create destinations which occupiers and their staff want to work in and have a positive influence on their local communities.

Our ESG team balances strategic and practical expertise to develop, implement and monitor tangible action at asset level which our property managers and building surveyors integrate into our clients’ asset management plans.

Simply, we deliver sustainability, wellbeing and social value at an asset level for investors and their customers.

Sustainability in property

We ensure best practice to improve the environmental performance of assets in areas such as energy, waste, and water, as well as statutory compliance.

Through energy audits, Sustainability Asset Plans and identifying and implementing building optimisation solutions, we significantly improve the environmental performance of our clients’ assets.

In the vital area of carbon reduction, we help clients meet their Net Zero ambitions through our  Net Zero Asset Plans which can be applied to a single asset or across entire portfolios.

We are committed to promoting biodiversity in the urban environment as a core element of both promoting wellbeing and achieving Net Zero. Through our campaign Building Biodiversity, we aim to increase the level of biodiversity projects being undertaken at commercial properties in the urban environment.

Visit our Building Biodiversity micro-site to learn more about the campaign, plus a wealth of information around the topic of biodiversity in the built environment, is now live.

Wellbeing

The symbiotic relationship between the wellbeing of occupiers and the value of real estate assets cannot be denied. The physical characteristics and operational practices within buildings have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those who occupy and visit it.

We develop effective Wellbeing Asset Plans to deliver a comprehensive health and wellbeing offering that deliver attractive and healthy working environments for occupiers.

We measure and assess properties’ health and wellbeing credentials through the Fitwel certification process – “a data driven certification system which aims to optimise buildings to support occupant health and wellbeing”.

Social Value

We continually seek to identify innovative ways for properties to contribute to their local community, for example through; using local suppliers in the supply chain, supporting charitable causes, promoting diversity and inclusivity and hosting community events.

Through tools like the Social Value Portal, we can report and measure the effectiveness of these initiatives.

Read our Building Community magazine to learn more about our approach and see examples of our work developing communities our occupiers want to be part of.
