Enhancing Inclusivity: Workman’s commitment to Employee Networks and ED&I
On this National Day for Staff Networks, Vicky Cotton, Partner and Head of ESG, and Joanne Hartle, Chair of Employee Networks and Senior Associate, discuss Workman’s ongoing efforts to enhance its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) strategy, which is a cornerstone of Workman’s broader business and culture transformation.
The aim is to re-energise the networks, with a sustained commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I), and recognition of the value its staff networks add to the workplace culture, supporting the employee journey and inspiring a feeling of belonging.
As Vicky explains: “We’re looking to reset our networks to ensure that they remain relevant, totally inclusive, and future ready, that all our people are aware of them, and that they know where to go to get support. We also want to ensure we’re attracting and retaining the very best people regardless of race, colour, gender. So our ED&I strategy, and specifically our employee networks, are at the forefront of our wider business transformation.
“The networks are vital in that commitment. They provide an opportunity for everybody to have an ally and a champion in the business. But most importantly, we really want them to be a safe space, and a way for our people to promote initiatives, review policies, and really challenge us as a business.”
The firm’s Employee Networks have already set in motion many positive developments, including:
- the introduction of Mental Health First Aiders,
- the improvement of parental leave policies,
- and the creation of a menopause policy and support group.
In this conversation, Vicky and Jo highlight the transformative power of these groups, their value in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees, and how Workman is resetting its commitment to ensuring that the networks work for all, and welcome all employees.
