Scope of Instruction:
General Building Consultancy
Client:
Royal Bank of Scotland
Property:
No 1 Aldgate Union, London
Summary:
The property is situated on the edge of the City of London in the middle of a major road gyratory and is a key building in the RBS strategy for their main London Headquarters. The building itself consists of a 10 storey office building and three large basement floors with a redundant retail mall at basement level.
RBS fully refurbished the 400,000 square feet office building, spending some £110 million including all new M&E and IT protection systems.
The gyratory road network closed in 2008 and a new inner city park will replace the road itself. This will form the first of the Mayor of London’s 100 Green Spaces and is currently planned to be part of the marathon route for the 2012 Olympic games.
Workman was appointed to advise and manage third party issues with respect to the complex ownerships involved on the RBS and adjacent sites, the proposed road changes, creation of the park and improvements to the pedestrian subway systems which provide access to the site.
